Which disinfectant is suitable for mother of Pearl spoon?
Mother of Pearl spoon is not suitable for strong acid, strong alkali or chlorine containing disinfectant. It is recommended to use neutral detergent combined with soft cloth for cleaning, or use natural fungicide (such as haibijing) for mild treatment. Specific analysis is as follows:
1、 The material characteristics of mother of Pearl determine the disinfection limit
Mother of Pearl spoon is made of natural shell, with smooth surface and stable chemical properties, but it has the following vulnerabilities:
Strong acid/strong alkali corrosion: 84 disinfectant (including sodium hypochlorite), oxalic acid and other strong corrosive detergents will damage the surface gloss of the shell, and even lead to cracking or corrosion.
High temperature deformation risk: do not boil or steam sterilize, otherwise the spoon may be deformed.
Scraping with metal tools: clean with a soft cloth or brush to prevent scratches.
2、 Recommended disinfection methods
Neutral detergent cleaning
Operation: gently clean with warm water and neutral detergent to remove residual food or stains.
Advantages: mild and corrosion free, suitable for daily cleaning.
Natural fungicides (such as haibijing)
Ingredients: shell materials such as Arctic shell, keel, oyster, etc. are baked at high temperature, which is natural and environmentally friendly.
Function: remove bacteria, pesticide residues and odor without damaging the shell surface.
Use: soak or wipe after diluting according to the product instructions, and then rinse with clean water.
UV disinfection (optional)
Operation: put the spoon in the sun to dry naturally and sterilize it with ultraviolet light.
Note: avoid drying and cracking of materials caused by long-term exposure.
3、 Disinfection methods to avoid
Chlorine containing disinfectant (such as 84 disinfectant)
Risk: sodium hypochlorite will corrode the shell surface, and mixing with other detergents (such as white vinegar) may produce toxic gases (such as chlorine).
Case: some users did not wash the shells thoroughly after soaking them with 84 disinfectant, resulting in dizziness and chest tightness caused by inhalation of toxic gas.
High temperature disinfection (e.g. boiling, steam)
Risk: mother of Pearl spoon may crack or deform due to thermal expansion and contraction.
Strong acid/strong alkali cleaner (such as oxalic acid, bleaching powder)
Risk: corrode the shell surface and damage the gloss and structure.
